mods
Defination: Mods (short for modifications) are anything that changes Minecraft's game content from what it originally was. Mods are becoming increasingly popular and indepth, adding whole new experiences and goals to the game.
PURPOSE OF MODS
Most mods in Minecraft add content to the game to alter game play, change the creative feel, or give the player more options in how they interact with the Minecraft world. Most people who mod Minecraft use mod coder pack to do so. Some may be bigger expansions, such as the Aether mod , which adds a significant amount of new content to the game, such as new blocks, mobs, abilities of the player(s), and items to create and use. Other mods add more settings and options to optimizing speed, graphics, or gameplay of the game. Others, such as MystCraft and PortalGun, bring another game's features and experiences into minecraft. Others are "toy mods" that bring another less useful but entertaining and playful experiences into Minecraft. Server mods for single-player have a server version that allows or optimizes the mod in multi-player.
Ideally, the creator of a mod updates the mod whenever the game updates - bringing more content, bug fixes, or optimizations.Otherwise, the mod may not work with a newer version. Many in the community appreciate the additional experience and ease of use that come with mods, while others play the original game with only the original content , Minecraft mods are generally safe to install, but one should exercise caution with mods to prevent crashes, deletion of the game or saved data, system instability, or potential malware infections from a bad link or the mod itself. A useful way to protect your game from such problems, is to back up various files, such as the .minecraft folder, if you choose to use mods. there are many mods or plugins available to complement the original game or give server admins more options and control there servers.

10. millenaire
A single-player only mod, Millenaire fills the sometimes desolate single-player world with randomly generated NPC villages based loosely on Indian, Mayan, Norman and Japanese cultures (With even more still in development). With a number of different village types including military garrisons, religious temples and humble farms Millenaire can really breathe some life into the otherwise lonely world of a solo Minecraft player.
Millenaire is available to download from http://millenaire.org/ and it even comes with a handy installer, for those of us who aren’t comfortable messing around with game files.

9. ICMB/Universal Electricity
Are you tired of the same old explosions in Minecraft? Are you after something with a bit more clout? Something like an intercontinental ballistic missile complete with nuclear warheads? If this sounds like you then ICBM is just the mod you’ve been looking far.
Along with the required Universal Electricity framework mod, ICBM adds a variety of high velocity missiles to the game, including nuclear, incendiary and chemical warheads. All of which are sure to get any UN weapon inspector’s knickers in a twist. Players looking to re-enact the cold war from the comfort of their computer can build missile silos, radar dishes and even rail guns, all of which are powered by Universal Electricity’s excellent power framework. All of these devices need to be hooked up to coal generators and the warheads need some serious juice to get them off the ground.

8. Archaeology and Fossilsf
Jurassic Park taught us anything it’s that bringing dinosaurs back to life is always a very bad idea. Reintroducing prehistoric creatures into the environment never ends well for anyone involved, but if you’re insistent on having your very own dino’ farm then the Archaeology and Fossils mod will be right up your street.
Adding several new blocks, items and monsters this mod has a substantial amount of content for any aspiring archaeologist to dig their way through. Digging up fossils and ancient relics allows you to create a whole host of new objects, including new weapons and armour, wall carvings and of course, dinosaur eggs. These little bundles of joy will soon hatch if placed and they will, without fail, cause a serious ruckus.

7. Weather and Tornadoes
The weather effects in Minecraft are pretty tame, with the occasional thunderstorm being the only real worry. The Weather and Tornadoes mod changes all that. From raging storms complete with gusts of wind sending your arrows off course to full blown tornadoes ripping the dirt up from under you this mod adds some seriously dangerous meteorological phenomena to the game.
It’s not just twisters and typhoons however; this mod also adds new rain textures and a number of new sound and particle effects, making the in-game weather far more realistic and sometimes pretty damn scary.
There’s not a lot you can do if a tornado rolls around but you can build yourself an early warning system using the two new blocks included with the mod: A tornado detector and a tornado siren, allowing you to batten down the hatches and seek refuge underground while the storm rages overhead.
If you fancy yourself an amateur storm chaser then Weather and Tornadoes is one mod you’ll definitely want to pick up. You can find the mod and full installation instructions here.

6. Wizardcraft
If there’s one thing vanilla Minecraft is lacking, it’s magic. Bashing Creepers over the head with a sword is great and everything but sometimes you just want to breathe some fire on the bastards. Well WizardCraft lets us do just that, amongst other things.
Wannabe wizards can craft up to 8 different elemental staffs, each of which are upgradeable, unlocking more powerful spells as you go. Each staff has a unique set of spells associated to it, fire staffs understandably allow you to set fire to your surroundings, frost staffs allow you to freeze entire lakes and summon wights to serve you in battle, earth staffs have the power to raise towers of dirt or summon blocks of ore up to the surface and wind staffs grant you the ability to teleport.
There’s nothing quite like raining down fire upon a bunch of unsuspecting zombies, or blowing up a village with a volley of exploding balls of magma.
Unfortunately this mod isn’t available for multiplayer games yet so anyone looking for a spot of wizard on wizard combat will be left disappointed.
If flinging spells about the place like a lunatic sounds good to you then you can grab the mod and full instructions here.

5. Terraria 3D
I spent a ludicrous amount of time with Terraria, Minecraft’s 2D cousin and this mod lets me bring everything I loved about my favourite 2D block-em-up into Minecraft, allowing me to while away the hours fighting monsters and crawling through dungeons all over again.
Terraria 3D includes just about every weapon, armour set and spell from Terraria and a few extras on top. The Corruption and The Hallow are included, replete with a host of familiar monsters. Everyone’s favourite utility The Grappling Hook is also present and it works perfectly in a 3D environment, zipping from one place to another, up trees and across mountains is great fun and it makes traversing Minecraft’s treacherous caverns a hell of a lot easier. At the moment the only boss available is the King Slime, but the developers are always working on adding more.
If you fancy adventuring through Terraria 3D with your friends then you’re in luck, the mod is compatible with multiplayer, albeit with reduced functionality.
I highly recommend this mod to any Terraria fan looking to recreate the experience in 3D, and just about anyone else for that matter. With so many features and even more still in production this mod is an absolute must play.
This mod along with full installation instructions can be found here.

4. Flan’s ModFlan’s Mod
Flan’s ModFlan’s Mod doesn’t add anything to the game by itself, but it does allow you to add a number of new items using compatible content packs.
WW2 enthusiasts can build their very own collection of tanks, fighter planes, bombers and a huge amount of weapons to wreak havoc with across Minecraft. Mass Effect fans can add a number of weapons from the ever popular Sci-Fi RPG to their game while Halo fans have the option to add a whole bunch of UNSC inspired weaponry, with vehicles and Covenant gear coming soon.
Some of the packs are compatible with multiplayer so you and your friends can take the fight to the skies with your very own Russian fighter planes or take part in a spot of trench warfare with a host of ranged weaponry.
The amount of content available for this mod is astonishing with more content being added all the time, so if hitting zombies over the head with a pointy stick just isn’t doing it for you anymore this mod might be just what you need.
If you’re looking to spice up your arsenal then this mod and all of the content packs I mentioned can be found here.

3. Pchan3′s Mods
If flying around Minecraft in your very own steam powered airship sounds like your idea of a good time then Pchan3′s Mods are the mods for you.
Adding a number of steam powered contraptions including a boat and an airship this mod allows any aspiring steam-punk pilot to take to the skies and seas, doing battle with the new sky-pirate mobs and allowing you to zip effortlessly from one of your floating steam fortress to another (You’ll have to build them yourself though).
The mod also populates the world with new highwaymen mobs who are all too willing to rob you of your hard earned gold before shooting you in the back. Of course you don’t have to pay them to leave you be, you can go all vigilante on these reprobates, netting you a swish new gun if you successfully take them down.
You can grab these mods here

2. Hack Slash Mine + MCNostalgiaHack/Mine
Is an absolute must play for any RPG fan looking to add a bit more adventure to their Minecraft games.
This mod brings more than just a touch of Diablo to Minecraft. With 5 difference races to choose from, each with different character models, 3 distinct classes, each with their own set of abilities and a pretty in-depth levelling up system Hack/Mine is the quintessential RPG mod.
Adventurers looking to fight their way through the myriad randomly generated dungeons can choose to play as a Warrior, a Ranger or a Mage. Each class is nicely varied with a number of unique spells and abilities to choose from and a different set of starting gear for each.
The core Minecraft gameplay remains relatively untouched, you can still mine for ores and craft your own weapons and armour but with the awesome random loot system included with this mod you really won’t want to. The world is littered with randomly generated dungeons that are absolutely crawling with new monsters to fight and powerful gear to find.
The mod is still in alpha testing but it’s already pretty heavily featured. It’s also fully compatible with multiplayer so you and your friends can all get in on the action together. I highly recommend playing this mod with other people, as of now the difficulty curve is pretty steep if you’re going it solo.
If you’re looking to get your adventure on this mod, along with full instructions can be found here.

1. The Aether
To finish off my list I present to you the incredible Aether mod.
Quite possibly one of, if not the biggest Minecraft mod ever, the Aether adds a whole new dimension to your world. Floating islands and mystical creatures populate this beautiful new environment, with dungeons to explore, bosses to kill and hundreds of new items to craft there is so much to do in The Aether that I honestly don’t have room to cover it all here!
The first thing to say about The Aether is that it looks and sounds absolutely beautiful, the developers behind this mod did an incredible job with the artwork and the custom music included compliments the new environment perfectly.
Not only does this mod include brand new items, it also adds a great accessory system, allowing players to craft and equip cloaks, shields, rings and necklaces, all of which come with powerful benefits. Crafting isn’t the only way to obtain these new items as The Aether also includes a number of new randomly generated dungeons ranging in difficulty from bronze to gold, filled with new monsters and fiendish bosses, and a nice cache of loot waiting for you at the end.
It even has flying pigs and Chocobo style creatures you can tame and use to navigate the myriad floating islands that make up the environment.
Sadly development on this mod has been stopped, for the time being at least. But getting it up and running by using MC Nostalgia is a pretty simple procedure.
As a Minecraft fan you owe it to yourself to check this mod out. I honestly can’t recommend it enough. You can find this incredible mod here, along with full installation instructions.
